Watches Worth Having . Rolex Submariner - willy - 13-05-2013 I am going to start writing each week about a watch , any new users on this site should think about when trying to decide what to buy . I would like help to do this from all of the members of this forum . This is not a debate about the watches i name , it is about information and pros and cons of buying the watch . Anyone who can help with expertise - pictures- buying advice is more than welcome to contribute . I will write a short introduction about the Brand and the watch , and leave the rest to you all . To avoid turning this into a debate i suggest we do not answer anyone who makes a contribution . This will give new watch users the opportunity to have a link were they can learn about a certain watch in peace and quiet . All pictures and technical information about the watches will be gratefully recieved . None of us are experts on all watches . But i bet that together we can get all the expertise anyone will need about any watches they are thinking of buying . Submariner ref. 6200 - year 1954The watch i have to start with is of course the Rolex Submariner . Intoduced in 1954 it is the most copied and most famous watch on our planet . The Sub became a favorite with prof divers and military forces world wide . It was a piece of design genius , that could be used for everything . Dive with it in the day and wear it for dress in the evening . Before this watch came along , watches were designed and made for many different uses . This was the first watch that crossed the boundarys of what you used your watch for , and in doing so changed the face of wachmaking for ever . There are so many different calibers case designs dials etc etc used on this watch since 1954 . You will need to do a lot of reading just to keep track of the different models of this watch . Look at any dive watch made since 1954 , 99% of them have Submariner dna in them . It is also the most copied watch on the planet . Also it is the most collected watch . There are more watch sites dedicated to the sub than any other watch ever made . Ref 5508 from early 60.Rolex make roughly between 8-900000 watches a year . So the Sub is a mass produced watch , but so are many other well known brands . But Rolex have a very high standard indeed and every part of a modern Sub is of the highest quality . They are made to be absolutly reliable and easy to service . Rolex calibers are considered by many to be the strongest and most reliable you can buy . Subs can take a lot of hard use without giving problems . Since the Subs introduction the basic design is maybe the same but the finishing of modern Subs is different to the past . New materials and methods of production have dressed the Sub up and away from the basic tool watch finish of the earlier models . But it as not changed the fact that it is still a go anywhere do anything watch . So much as been written about the Sub . And i have heard Hollywood are making a film about its life Willy Re: Watches Worth Having . Re: Watches Worth Having .
