Eta... Feta?

På Eternas hjemmeside står der følgende:

"On the 7th November 1856, the doctor Josef Girard and the schoolteacher Urs Schild founded the watch manufacturing company U. Schild, which later was to be called Eterna."

og

"1995 - F.A. Porsche, through F.A.P. Beteiligungen GmbH, took over Eterna SA in Grenchen."

På ETA´s hjemmeside står der følgende:

"1856 - At Grenchen, Urs Schild, a schoolmaster, and Dr. Girard set up an ébauches factory which was to be the first watch factory in the canton of Solothurn and the origin of ETA."

og

"1978 - ETA and AS (A. Schild SA) merged. The calibre range was replanned."

Dvs: ETA er i dag en del af Swatchgruppen og Eterna er en del af F.A. Porsche.

Jeg synes dermed det er ret sandsynligt at ETA navnet kommer fra at have været værk producent divisionen af Eterna og at der er en navnemæssig sammenhang. I 1932 gik ETA så egne veje, men siden har samarbejdet været meget aktivt. Det kan du læse på samme Timezone hjemmeside.

Her står om tilhørsforholdet mellem ETA og Eterna helf fra i Eterna 3000 modellen med teksten:

The 2892 is the most recent ETA (basic automatic) caliber and, unlike most of the other ETA's currently in production, the 2892 was derived from an outside design, the Eterna-matic 3000, Cal. 1466-U, first released in 1963 (by Eterna). When finally made available as an ETA movement in 1976, it was very flat for an automatic with center sweep and date, had a distinct developmental history outside ETA and had accumulated a very good record of reliability in the Eterna watches.

Jeg tror godt man må citere fra Timezones internet side når bare man gør opmærksom på det helt tydeligt at det er deres opgivelser. Nogen kan rette mig hvis jeg tager fejl.

Og så til slut fra et interview med Porche design direktøren, hvor han spørges om Eterna, og også dér fortæller at Eterna i mange år holdt lav profil for ikke at komme i konflikt med de mange kunder der købte ETA værker. Jeg citerer ham her:

Eterna was never a brand with a truly worldwide distribution. However, it's production spin-off (ETA) was making big money with basic movements sold on a worldwide basis. It’s fair to say Eterna was the hobby of the famous Schild family and they kept it low key so as not to get in conflict with it's ETA customers.
