OK i had my radiomir 388 for two days before my good friend Bo Hansen allowed me to cancel the deal . The watch was just so uncomfortable on my wrist and leaving me with red marks . I did not have this problem with my last Pam a GMT luminor .
I think Pams are charming watches to look at , there is something antique in the design . They are quite unlike any other watches in the world . And i think it is this design that as made them what they are today . Just like the Rolex Sub , anyone with a little knowledge of watches would recognise a Pam .
To be honest i think they have very little to do with traditions of great watchmaking compaired to brands like IWC - Rolex- Omega - Zenith etc etc . They were a brand taken out of mothballs because someone could smell money in the history and design . Today Richmont are trying to give them watchmaking credibility to go with the design , but they have a long way to go . You need more than a few so called inhouse calibers to win over the real experts . But they are trying and deserve credit for that .
I do not consider them to be tool watches or pratical watches in anyway at all . The designs are from the past and i cannot see them ever changing that . And that is their limitation in my opinion , because you cannot give much that is new to the watch world and keep a very old design at the same time .
So why have i owned two of them ? Simple , i could not get any other watch that looks like a Pam . And i knew that i could sell maybe the only designer watch in the world that keeps a good price , when i got tired of it .
Will i buy one again ? Maybe i will because they are beggining to make 40-42 mm models . And a 42mm radiomir in red gold would look very good indeed . So i quite understand why Tio got himself a Pam . Willy
