Power Reserves

Just like to get a few opinions on the efficiency of your automatic watches . I know automatics are dependent of the amount of time you wear them , if you want them to keep ticking without having to hand wind them . Most of the ones i have owned have needed hand winding now and again to keep them going . I only wear my watches for about 8-9 hours a day . The problem is that most have screw crowns , and it is not healthy to use crowns in the long run . It causes unnecessary wear on the crown thread when you have to screw them out and in all the time .

Most hand wound watches have a pull out winding crown . The fact is that screw down crowns are not designed or meant to be used often . This means that if you buy a automatic watch with a screw crown , you should wear the watch for X amount of hours to avoid having to wind it . Or you have to stand there like a idiot with the watch in your hand and make a movement not unlike masturbation , to wind the bloody thing . And there is a risk that while shaking the watch it flys out of your hands and lands on the floor .

Is there a way around this problem for unfortunate people like me who do not wear their automatics for ca. 16 hours a day ? Well i may have solved the problem for myself with the latest watch i bought . My Chopard LUC has got a double barrel winding system with a very respectable 65 hour power reserve . And Chopard with a stroke of genius decided to equip this 4.96 caliber with a Tungsten winding rotor to improve the winding preformance of what is meant to be a dive watch . It is still a coffee bar diver in my opinion , but my hat goes off for Chopard . They did something other so called dive brands should think about . I never have to wind this watch even though i only wear it for about 8 hours a day . I will admit that i shake the watch a little bit now and again , so that i can hear the little beast of a rotor spinning around . It is a noisy little thing , but it works .
