Description: The high-frequency calibres 1000, 1001 and 1002, with a higher frequency of 28 800 a/h (allowing greater regulating performance), replaced the 550/560 family, since they were thinner and fitted with a less powerful rotor, which had a lower winding speed and therefore-theoretically less wear. At the same time, the latest technological discoveries were applied, such as self-lubrication. These would be the first OMEGA calibres to be equipped with a new date and time setting device, allowing the date to be changed without moving the hands and the time to be set to that of the radio.
The calibre 1000 had certain problems with its winding mechanism, Nevertheless, thanks to its excellent basic design, its high frequency and a series of quickly introduced improvements, as well as the discontinuation of certain supposed improvements, such as self-lubrication and the instantaneous date in particular, its successors 1010, 1020 and 1030, launched in 1973 and 1974, held their own against the electronic calibres taking the market by storm in the early Seventies. With a total of 1.5 million units produced, they were one of the best-selling OMEGA self-winding calibres
