In the many years that followed since the project's end in 1973, the Alaska Project was all but forgotten.

But then (in the early 1990s) something happened that changed just about everything: Kesaharu Imai, one of the most famous watch collectors, began writing a book about the multi-facetted history of the Speedmaster.
In order to get the most accurate information possible, he visited Omega and its museum in Bienne.
During his stay he showed the people of Omega and the curator of the museum some pictures of his own vast collection (surely one of the finest in the world).
Much to Omega’s surprise Mr. Imai was in possession of something even Omega did not have: two perfect examples of the very first generation Speedmaster, the CK 2915!
The people of Omega tried to persuade Mr. Imai to part with one of his treasured CK 2915 Speedmasters, but he had no interest in selling either of them.
As a last resort Omega offered a trade: one of the few surviving prototypes of the Alaska Project against one of the first generation Speedmaster.
So Omega got its CK 2915, Mr. Imai flew back to Japan with a wonderful prototype and the watch-collecting world was soon to hear the first bits & pieces of the story
behind the almost forgotten white & red Speedmaster!

Pictures and historic details of the Alaska Project started to appear in Mr. Imai’s publications (for example in “The Space & Watch”, ISBN 4-7663-3275-X as well as in
his now legendary – and most probably definitive work on the history of the Speedmaster – book “A Time Capsule”, as published in an English translation by World Photo
Press), and thus the whole project as well as the details behind its raison d’être became a topic among many serious watch collectors...!
A few more years passed until, in April 2007, “Omegamania" offered one of the surviving prototypes up for auction!
On April 15 2007 said prototype (as Lot 211) was successfully auctioned for a winning bid of CHF 64,900!

Nu begynder det at blive svært, at tro på, at en kaliber (321) der var under udfasning i projekt årene vitterligt skulle have fundet plads i "boksen".
