The world is indeed changing . Especialy in the watch world . Nobody worried about buying a watch without paperwork in the old days . But today you only have to google any dealer to see that they make a special point to mention that a watch is with paperwork . Or in the case of high end watches they have gone to the trouble of getting the watch verified by the brand that made the watch .
You might ask yourself why is this ? I mean why should a piece of paper have any meaning at all . It is not just watches that need paper today . When you buy a piece of designer furniture costing over say 25000 people do not today throw the paperwork in the rubbish bin , like they used to in the past .
Today we live in a world with big insurance premiums and lots of great forgers . To authenticate something is so much easier when you have paperwork . Even Auction houses spend time and money to authenticate objects they are selling . Of course it is also possible to forge paperwork , but manufacturers are making it very difficult to do so .
The future will be in my opinion , that watches and other valuable objects will all have unremovable tracking devices built into them . So that if you take a watch into a dealer to sell it , they will just scan the watch for its past history .
Who knows in the future old fashioned paperwork might be just as valuble as the watch
