Rolex make around 1000,000 watches a year, and they can sell them all.We cannot predict the future 100%,but we can give a qualified guess. There are many who dream of owning a Rolex, because they believe it means they have reached a certain level in society. As long as Rolex keep their image, the billions of people waiting to own one ,will keep the factorys going for years.
The used watch market is rather more unpredictable, because nobody really knows if future generations will be as interested in it.We are entering a use and throw away period in history, where things are out of date, soon after you buy them.Who knows, maybe future generations will want something, that is just not a throw away product.
My guess is that telling the time will become as easy as blinking your eye or moving your hand. And wristwatches will become obsolete for this purpose. They will i think become decorative ornaments worn on the wrists of future generations.Imagine someone asking you in say 20-30 years time. Why you are wearing such a out of date and obsolete object on your wrist?
Its all about Time, and when people have no need to look at their wrist to see it,this will mean the decimation of the watch industry. All you really have to do, is to look backwards to be able to see some of the future.Just look at what people were wearing and using at the beginning of this century. And then try to see what has survived. One thing is for sure in my opinion.Anyone who buys wristwatches as a future Investment,is running a very very big risk. And when the bubble does pop, there will be so many Rolex watches in this world, that you will have problems to give them away.
Even though i love wristwatches,i must be honest.I just cannot see how they can survive the future. And i really hope i am wrong in this case.
